"Make an Immediate Impact in a $2 billion Company"
"High Visibility, Challenging Work and Quality of Life!"
Notice that in both examples there is a benefit to the candidate - not just bragging about the position or company.
Describe what you want this person to accomplish and not just the skills you think are necessary to do this.
Examples:
Stretch your compliance skills over the next 12 months by establishing a thorough understanding of the compliance process to ensure that all tax returns are completed by August 1st.
Standing still? Get moving by leveraging your in-depth tax research and planning skills to reduce the effective tax rate down to 30%. Here's your chance to make a name for yourself both in and out of the company.
Your major responsibility during the first 15 months on the job is choosing new compliance software system for the department and spear heading the implementation and conversion process.
Explain why a person with the type of profile you are requesting would want this position. Give specific facts that are realistic yet compelling.
Examples:
Your Profile: 3-4 year or Senior Tax Accountant, out of a Big 4 public accounting firm, who is currently in their compliance practice. You offer them 60-80% tax compliance (which they automatically equate to 80%) and 20-40% research and planning (which is the area they might want in their next job profile?). Write the ad like this:
Take your current compliance skills and expand into a 20-40% research and planning role - while maintaining a compliance and review base.
Within the body of your ad make them want to apply for the job or find out more information by giving the benefits to that individual - most people want to know what is in it for themselves.
Examples:
If you are looking for a 10 year Tax Attorney from a Top 20 law school your ad should be drafted so that this type of person would see the benefits to themselves:
In this role you would leverage your tax legal skills and interface with legal, finance, treasury and upper management to make a bottom line impact on current business and financial issues, with a continued proactive focus on upcoming mergers, acquisitions and business plans. This high visibility role will increase your business and tax knowledge and prepare you for management and leadership roles in the future.
The same holds true when you are looking for a lighter weight person, like a Tax Accountant or Senior Tax Accountant.
You will be working closely with your Manager to learn complex planning, compliance, research and tax audit skills, broadening into international tax, as well as being mentored for project leadership as the department grows.
