Director of Tax

Our client, a $3.5 billion leader in their industry is seeking a Director of Tax to join their company and be responsible for all aspects of the tax department. We are seeking a candidate who is interested in joining a company that is well positioned to operate during a possible extended recession and has significant upside potential. Additionally, this position offers the following:
- Oversee a tax department of 12 people handling all aspects of tax. This will be a technically broad role and will see a wide variety of tax issues.
- Senior level position within the company that can offer future opportunities beyond the tax area if so desired.
- Direct exposure and interface with Board of Directors and executive management.
- Report to an individual who is well seasoned in overseeing tax and has a real appreciation for the value tax brings to the table and the importance of good communication.
- Reasonable balance of life with on average a 45-50 hour work week and a 9/80 schedule if desired.
Candidate Qualifications:
- Minimum 15+ years of tax experience with a preference for a combination background of professional services and corporate industry.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance combined with a CPA required. Advanced degree preferred.
- U.S. Federal tax planning, tax controversy and working knowledge of SFAS109, FIN18 and FIN48 required.
- Heavy management experience of a minimum of 5 people required.
- Experience with derivatives and merchant power producers is a strong plus.
- Exceptional communication skills and team player that can interface at all levels.
