We are a well-established, privately held real estate company on the mid-Peninsula (San Francisco Bay Area), active in the development, operation, and leasing of commercial and residential properties. We are seeking an experienced and collaborative tax professional to join our team during a key period of transition. This role begins by working closely with our current head of tax and providing exposure to a broad range of real estate, partnership, and high-net-worth individual tax matters. For the right candidate, this position offers a clear and supported pathway to leading the tax function as the department transitions over the next 1–3 years.

Primary Responsibilities
- Prepare and review federal and state income tax returns for partnerships, LLCs, S corporations, and individuals
- Prepare tax workpapers; organize and maintain electronic tax files
- Prepare partner capital reconciliations and maintain preferred return schedules
- Prepare complex account reconciliations, analyses, and journal entries related to the tax function
- Interpret and apply provisions of partnership/operating agreements
- Prepare 4–6 high-net-worth individual and trust tax returns for senior partners, involving complex personal tax matters such as bonus depreciation, QSBS, charitable contributions, multi-state issues, 1031/754 elections, partnership transfers, and suspended losses
- Assist with partner basis adjustments, including step-ups, inside/outside basis calculations, and 1031 exchange-related considerations
- Research tax issues and apply findings to day-to-day work
- Ensure compliance with sales/use tax, Form 1099 reporting, and other state/local business filings
- Correspond with outside advisors and third-party service providers
- Manage federal and state notices, including written and verbal communication with tax authorities
- Collaborate with the accounting and property management teams on cross-departmental projects
Ideal Qualifications
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work well with colleagues across departments
- Minimum 5years of combined tax and financial accounting experience
- Degree in taxation, accounting, or related field
- CPA required
- Significant partnership tax experience in the real estate industry preferred
- Experience with §754 adjustments, partner buyouts, special allocations, 1031 exchanges, and real estate provisions of the 2018 TCJA
- Familiarity with Lacerte Tax and Yardi accounting software
Salary Range (Base): $180,000 – $220,000, depending on experience, with eligibility for a discretionary annual bonus
