We are seeking an experienced and collaborative tax professional to join our team during a key period of transition. This role begins by working closely with our current head of tax and providing exposure to a broad range of real estate, partnership, and high-net-worth individual tax matters. For the right candidate, this position offers a clear and supported pathway to leading the tax function as the department transitions over the next 1–3 years.

You will join a small, dedicated, and long-tenured team that values integrity, teamwork, and open communication. The position also provides meaningful interaction with the company’s owners and principals, as well as opportunities to contribute to strategic decision-making. We offer an extensive benefits package, including paid time off, 401(k), medical, and flexible spending benefits.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review federal and state income tax returns for partnerships, LLCs, S corporations, and individuals
  • Prepare tax workpapers; organize and maintain electronic tax files
  • Prepare partner capital reconciliations and maintain preferred return schedules
  • Prepare complex account reconciliations, analyses, and journal entries related to the tax function
  • Interpret and apply provisions of partnership/operating agreements
  • Prepare 4–6 high-net-worth individual and trust tax returns for senior partners, involving complex personal tax matters such as bonus depreciation, QSBS, charitable contributions, multi-state issues, 1031/754 elections, partnership transfers, and suspended losses
  • Assist with partner basis adjustments, including step-ups, inside/outside basis calculations, and 1031 exchange-related considerations
  • Research tax issues and apply findings to day-to-day work
  • Ensure compliance with sales/use tax, Form 1099 reporting, and other state/local business filings
  • Correspond with outside advisors and third-party service providers
  • Manage federal and state notices, including written and verbal communication with tax authorities
  • Collaborate with the accounting and property management teams on cross-departmental projects

Ideal Qualifications

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work well with colleagues across departments
  • Minimum 5years of combined tax and financial accounting experience
  • Degree in taxation, accounting, or related field
  • CPA required
  • Significant partnership tax experience in the real estate industry preferred
  • Experience with §754 adjustments, partner buyouts, special allocations, 1031 exchanges, and real estate provisions of the 2018 TCJA
  • Familiarity with Lacerte Tax and Yardi accounting software

Salary Range (Base): $180,000 – $220,000, depending on experience, with eligibility for a discretionary annual bonus
