About Transportation Tax Consulting

Transportation Tax Consulting LLC (TTC) is a specialty state and local tax firm built for one industry — transportation. We serve motor carriers, fleet lessors, brokers and 3PLs, rail, air, marine, transit and motorcoach operators, last-mile fleets, and the dealers, parts suppliers, and service providers who support them. Our work reduces our clients' operating taxes through sales and use tax recovery, excise and property tax, audit defense, nexus and restructuring advisory, and operational compliance.

TTC was named to the 2025 Inc. 5000 list of America's fastest-growing private companies. As an affiliate of National Fleet Services LLC, TTC operates on a foundation of high ethical standards, technical excellence, and client service integrity.

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced SALT Manager to lead client engagements, develop team members, and deliver strategic sales and use tax solutions to transportation clients nationwide. This role is built for a technically strong, relationship-driven professional who is ready to lead.

As a SALT Manager, you will apply deep technical expertise to complex, multi-state sales and use tax matters while providing strategic guidance to clients across the transportation sector. You will own engagements from planning through delivery — quality, risk, economics, and client satisfaction all run through you. You will also help shape how the firm grows: the processes we build, the people we develop, and the reputation we carry in the market.

Where We Are Hiring

This position is fully remote. Candidates must reside in, and be authorized to work in, the United States, in one of the following markets:

  • Texas — Dallas, Houston, Austin, San Antonio
  • Florida — Tampa, Orlando, Jacksonville
  • North Carolina — Charlotte, Raleigh
  • Tennessee — Nashville, Memphis, Knoxville
  • Ohio — Columbus, Cincinnati, Cleveland
  • Indiana — Indianapolis
  • Arizona — Phoenix
  • Georgia — Statewide

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage complex multi-state sales and use tax engagements from scoping through resolution
  • Analyze client tax operations and deliver actionable business insight, not just technical conclusions
  • Identify tax savings opportunities and exposure, and communicate recommendations clearly to client leadership
  • Oversee technical research and the drafting of refund claims, audit responses, petitions for redetermination, and other administrative filings
  • Manage engagement budgets, timelines, staffing, and client expectations
  • Serve as the primary point of contact and trusted advisor on assigned client relationships
  • Monitor legislative, regulatory, and market developments affecting transportation taxpayers
  • Develop and implement strategies that improve clients' tax positions and compliance processes
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop Coordinators, Seniors, and Associates
  • Contribute to practice development, process improvement, and firm growth initiatives

Qualifications

  • Minimum of six (6) years of relevant sales and use tax experience
  • Bachelor's degree required; accounting, finance, or business is helpful but not required — we hire strong analytical talent from a range of academic backgrounds
  • Strong command of sales and use tax concepts, compliance frameworks, and primary-source technical research
  • Demonstrated experience managing projects, budgets, and people
  • Track record of success in a professional services, consulting, or corporate tax organization
  • Strong technical writing and analytical skills — our deliverables are cited to primary authority
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple complex engagements simultaneously
  • Strong communication and influencing skills with client executives
  • Ability to work effectively and self-directedly in a fully remote environment, with occasional travel as needed

Credentials

A CPA license is not required for this role. TTC's technical training and credential path runs through the Institute for Professionals in Taxation (IPT), targeting the CMI designation, and we sponsor that path. Existing credentials are welcome in any of the following forms:

  • CMI — Institute for Professionals in Taxation (preferred)
  • Progress toward CMI, or existing IPT membership and coursework
  • Enrolled Agent (EA)

What We Look For

  • Initiative and the confidence to challenge an existing process
  • Strong data analysis skills and comfort with large, messy datasets from multiple sources
  • A client-first mindset and genuine relationship-building ability
  • Commitment to transparency, accountability, and ethical excellence
  • A real desire to mentor others and build a high-performing team
  • Ownership — you close the loop without being asked

Compensation & Benefits

TTC offers a competitive total rewards package. The salary range for this role is compensation determined based on experience, qualifications, skills, and geography. Managers are additionally eligible for performance-based incentive compensation.

  • Medical and dental coverage
  • Life insurance
  • 401(k) plan - matching
  • Three weeks of paid time off, plus two paid firm-wide office closures — the week of Christmas through New Year's and the week of July 4th
  • Firm-sponsored IPT membership, coursework, and support toward the CMI (Certified Member of the Institute) designation
  • Ongoing professional development, mentorship, and a clearly defined advancement path

How to Apply

Send your resume to Careers@mailttc.com. Please use the subject line: [Role] — [City, State] — [Your Name]. A brief note on the transportation, indirect tax, or analytical work you are proudest of is welcome but not required.
