Manage the compensation and fringe benefits tax responsibilities of the company including identifying, implementing and enforcing processes and procedures to monitor and ensure law compliance, to provide oversight for day to day business needs, to analyze financial information from multiple software systems utilizing advanced Excel skills, to respond to notices, inquiries, and audits, and to review tax and compensation related filings prepared by employees and external vendors.  

 Principle Accountabilities:  

  •  Research and analyze complex compensation and fringe benefits taxation issues and effectively communicate the conclusions, both orally and in writing, to various company personnel, external vendors, and taxing jurisdiction auditors. 
  • Identify and communicate policy or law noncompliance in the compensation and fringe benefits tax area, quantify exposures, and establish procedures to remediate including training of impacted employees. 
  •  Monitor compensation and fringe benefit related tax developments, including understanding how these developments impact company operations and to implement new or modified processes and procedures to comply with changes as needed. 
  •  Proactively develop relationships and closely coordinate with a variety of PCA departments including Human Resources, Benefits, Payroll, Accounts Payable, Expense Reporting and Legal to provide guidance and solutions that are law compliant and practical to meet business needs as it relates to compensation and fringe benefits taxation.
  • Research and timely respond to inquiries and notices from taxing authorities and identify the underlying cause or issue in order to implement manageable solutions for process improvements. 
  •  Delegate tasks to employees and/or outside vendors to carryout objectives as determined. 
  • Know and follow policies and procedures of the company, share information that would benefit other members of the team and find ways to improve the delivery of service to our customers.

Decision Making: This individual will be expected to work independently and bring all projects to conclusion before submitting for review to the Senior Tax Director, and/or Vice President, Tax.

Interactions with Customers and Contacts:  This individual is responsible for successfully maintaining relationships within the tax department and with all departments that interact with the tax department, as well as, plant and mill controllers and their financial staff, consultants, and taxing jurisdiction employees. 

Position Requirements:
 Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent is required. 

  8 to 12+ years of compensation and fringe benefits taxation related experience.  
 Advanced Excel skills, proficiency with Word and on-line tax research databases. 
 A keen attention to detail, ability to implement, enforce and monitor processes and procedures, ability to communicate complex concepts with clarity and ease of understanding, ability to identify and resolve issues and to consistently follow-up on open items.
