Transfer Pricing Senior Manager

The Role:
Moderna is seeking a Transfer Pricing Senior Manager to join our Tax team in Atlanta, GA.  This role is an exciting opportunity to be a critical part of Moderna’s growing Tax team, supporting a high-growth organization that is radically changing the biotech industry.  Reporting to the Director of Global Tax, the Transfer Pricing Senior Manager will be responsible for assisting the Director of Global Tax in managing transfer pricing planning, implementation, compliance, and controversy in support of all Moderna companies.  This position requires multi-national experience in a challenging, dynamic, and fast-paced environment interfacing with business partners and understanding the business as is continues to grow.  The Transfer Pricing Senior Manager will collaborate and build strong relationships with external advisors and internal teams (Supply Chain, Accounting, Treasury, Legal, FP&A, and HR).  The successful candidate will also play a critical role in various US and international tax planning projects. 

Moderna’s Enterprise Solutions Hub will formally open in midtown Atlanta in late spring 2022 and will provide enterprise solutions to the organization. Moderna's Hub in Atlanta will initially focus on delivering finance, human resources, procurement and digital solutions. Moderna is expecting to hire approximately 150-200 full time employees in the Atlanta Hub over the next two years.

Here’s What You’ll Do:

  • Assist with review of transfer pricing documentation and planning studies, benchmarking analysis, cost allocations, advance pricing agreements, audit defense and dispute resolution

  • Support Director, Global Tax in managing global transfer pricing operations, including understanding and monitoring entity functions, implementing, and monitoring appropriate arms-length pricing, intercompany agreements inventory, and regular netting and cash settlements journal entries

  • Evaluate intercompany transfers of tangible goods, intangible assets/intellectual property, services, and loans for multi-national and domestic corporations

  • Work with Senior Management to present detailed economic, financial, and accounting analysis demonstrating an understanding of transfer pricing concepts and method application

  • Assist with local country reporting requirements and support expanding global presence

  • Design and apply complex financial models to evaluate and price intercompany transfers

  • Produce and cultivate best practice internal controls and documentation standards to achieve efficient standards for transfer pricing compliance

  • Supporting transfer pricing audits and responding to notices

  • Calculate monthly intercompany transactions and prepare journal entries, as required

  • Improve reporting capabilities to enhance our ability to evaluate risk and capitalize on opportunities

  • Supporting team members in any way needed to help ensure timely completion of deliverables

  • Other responsibilities as needed


Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in one of the following (Accounting, Finance, Business, Economics, Taxation, or a related field), and/or a JD or LL.M. in Taxation

  • 8+ years of experience in a transfer pricing role at Big 4 public accounting firm or corporate multi-national company, preferably in biopharma or life sciences industries

  • Motivation and initiative to take ownership of project from discovery to resolutions, set aggressive business goals, drive results, and meet tight deadlines

  • Ability to operate in a fast paced, ever changing environment, excellent prioritization

  • Effective communication skills, including an ability to both listen and articulate complex concepts to different audiences, resulting in action-oriented outcomes

  • Detail oriented with strong organizational skills for multi-tasking

  • Analytical and effective problem solver with strong quantitative abilities

  • Strong technology skills are a must

  • High ethical standards, integrity and strength of character in his/her personal and professional dealings and a willingness to act on and be accountable for his/her decisions
