Director of Unemployment Tax

The position of the Director of UI Tax is to manage and oversee the day-to-day operations of the UI Tax Department. This person will confirm that all processes and procedures are followed, documented, and periodically evaluated to ensure that best practices are always in place. This person should be an expert on standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the department and be able to provide leadership and guidance to all members of the department with respect to these matters.

  • Respond in a timely manner to client questions and problems related to their SUI accounts and tax rates
  • Provide support to clients regarding tax questions and calculations in a timely manner
  • Providing leadership, mentoring, guidance and assistance to other team members is essential in this role
  • Strategize with clients and other team members on UI issues
  • Support the growth and development of team members, helping associates meet their professional goals along with proactively supporting the recruitment efforts of future team members
  • Demonstrate leadership, initiative, excellent team skills, and high ethical standards
  • Participate in the implementation process for new clients as required
  • Assist in the education and acclimation of new clients to the Unemployment Cost Control Program, inclusive of but not limited to introductory phone calls and/or meetings, providing specific and thorough detail of all services available from the UI Tax Department
  • Support the team in the review of acquisition details, analysis, and historical state unemployment tax data provided by clients to help continually provide additional savings that have previously not captured in previous years.
  • Travel may be required to current client offices due to report delivery, client education on new and evolving tax issues or conducting UI training sessions for client HR Departments.
  • Travel may also be required for New Client or potential client meetings
  • Other duties as assigned

Eductation and Required Experience

  • 4 Year Degree required
  • 5+ Years’ experience with unemployment taxes or a similar industry
  • 3+ Years management experience
  • Must be proficient in MS Office Suite, Outlook, Internet, TNC Claims Management Systems and TNT.net
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently with little supervision
  • Ability to define priorities and handle multiple tasks and projects
  • Adaptable; able to change focus quickly
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Professional demeanor with the ability to interact tactfully
  • Ability to work well with varying levels of internal management staff
  • Ability to help and provide guidance to team members
  • Ability to maintain positive working relationships with clients, peers, team members, and leadership
  • Ability to deal with stressful situations to achieve desired business result
  • Strong, detail oriented, organizational, analytical, and time management skills
  • Must have the ability to be punctual and maintain excellent attendance
